Doubleday Field is named for Abner Doubleday, hence its nickname "Birthplace of Baseball." The field is in beautiful Cooperstown, NY and is just two blocks from the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The baseball diamond was built in 1920. The current stands were built in 1939 by the Works Project Administration and the stadium seats nearly 9,800.

For years, from 1940-2008, a major league exhibition game was played there annually. It was the last "in-season" exhibition game in major league baseball. Every team participated at some point.

The annual professional game has continued since then, first with the New York-Penn League and more recently with the independent Can-Am League.

No professional team has ever called the park home, as it has no lights for night games. For the 2016 Cooperstown Can-Am Classic, the public address system was a megaphone. Despite free admission, the game was not too well attended.
